Renato Guttuso

Saturday morning, Annalisa and I drove to Parma’s Fondazione Magnani Rocca. After drinking tea and observing the obligatory eccentricities of a former aristocratic estate (hello, peacocks), we checked out the temporary exhibition of native son Renato Guttuso (1911-1987). He enjoyed a very long career and his influences are reflected in his work throughout the decades. I also learned that the Italian translation for ‘still life’ is natura morta, literally 'dead nature.’
