My friend’s and I celebrated July 4 picnicking in Trafalgar Square. The Royal Opera beamed Madama Butterfly onto a large screen for free (they were performing live in front of a paying audience at their theatre). The show made me a little nostalgic for Brooklyn, where the performers would have actually come to the park. However, we were permitted to drink wine out in the open instead of hiding it, which is a much more civilized way to enjoy a show.
The day before, we attended a July 4th picnic hosted by Democrats Abroad. To my great thrill, rather than burgers, I found a Tacuba stand, where I bought a delicious vegetarian burrito. The kids above are swaying to Kate Ellis, who sounded great. Randomly, she later sat next to us in the grass and I told her so.
The cutest a capella group ever.
