My Home for the Week

Have I mentioned how much I love living here? Cristina’s family has been so great to me.

Their house is full of interesting heirlooms, which they don’t really like. They keep them because they’d feel bad giving away their family’s history. They did, however, name the paintings in the back Pifi and Pifia, which as far as I can tell means ‘ugly’ or 'blunder.’ Most people I know in America don’t have family collections like this because their ancestors came to the United States with a suitcase or nothing at all and had to leave everything else behind.

The other night we joined some of Cristina’s extended family for dinner–at an American rib joint! “La Comida Americana - Made in Spain.” Tony Roma’s actually did seem very American. The space was huge inside and they had jalapeno poppers and all that. I ordered a Mexican salad and we all shared sangria and, after our meals, a brownie/cookie/ice cream dessert.
