Madrid, Bilbao, Basque Country

We visited the Palacio Real del Pardo, originally a hunting retreat for royalty and then Franco’s home for decades. It’s now back in the royal family and serves as a sort of hotel for foreign heads of state. Inside, the walls are covered with perfectly preserved tapestries and famous paintings, including Bosch’s terrifying Garden of Earthly Delights.

This mini only used half a tank of gas during our six-hour roadtrip north to Hondarribia.

Don’t know what I’m doing here, but I’m whiter than white!

Spain is an incredibly difficult country for vegetarians, but I got by on Spanish tortilla, gazpacho—and fried cheese!

Oh, and marmalade toast.
